The Olympic Canal was opened in 1991 because of the celebration of the canoeing competitions in calm waters of the 1992 Summer Olympics, made in Barcelona under the name of Canal Olímpic de Catalunya.
The overall project was conducted by engineer Joseph Maso (channel), the architects Pedro Riera and Josep Maria Gutierrez (auxiliary buildings) and the architect Mariella Zoppi (development environment).
The facilities have a total of 450,000 m2, 150,000 m2 of which are fresh water from the water table. The channel is built on an ancient marshes of the Llobregat River delta, surrounded by aleppo pine.
The Olympic Channel has the track channel, which is used to practice and learn canoeing and water skiing, windsurfing or optimist. You can also rent boats (canoes, kayaks and boats ride) to ride into the calm waters. In addition there’s also some equipment for rental: bicycles, inline skates, pedal cars and archery equipment.
