The swimming competition finishes in the Mediterranean Games with Italy standing out
Paltrinieri and Belmonte conquered the gold medal in 400m freestyle and 200 m butterflycategory: Mediterranean Games
The Italian athletes are present in all the podium of the Campclar Aquatic Centre, since they have won just in this afternoon 14 medals.
The second and last day of swimming competition has finished this evening with the resolution of at least 7 different categories.
The most remarkable competitions have been those played by the Spanish swimmer Mireia Belmont, who has won after a frentic recovery the 200 m butterfly final. In her second competition of the day, Belmonte has obtained the second position in 400 m freestyle. The podium has been completed with the first place for Italy’s Simona Quadarella and Portugal’s Diana Duares, the third one.
In 400 m men’s freestyle, the former Olympic champion Gregorio Paltrinieri has comfortably won and finished before his fellow countryman Domenico Acerenza and Egypt’s Marwan Elkamash.
In 4×100 women’s the Italian team has set the record of the competition obtaining the gold medal. In second position, the Spanish team has conquered the silver medal and the Greek swimmers the bronze one.
As for the S10 100 m France’s Lorandi has obtained the gold medal, Italy’s Scortechini the silver one and Spain’s Sarai Gascón, although she have participated in a different degree of disability than the corresponding one, has finished in the third position.
Finally, two Mediterranean records have been set by Egypt’s Farida Osman, in 50 m freestyle, and Italy’s Arianne Castiglioni, with 50 m breastroke.
