The Mediterranean Village already has a mayor. The athlete Jesús García Bragado will be in charge of the daily management of the Mediterranean Village, acting as the connection between the organisation and the athletes.
García Bragado will carry out as mayor of the village tasks like attending the events and activities of the Village, welcoming the delegations of the participating committees and assisting the members of the Mediterranean Family in order meet the needs and requests that may arise during their stay and competition.
The mayor of the Village has stated that ‘during my professional career, I have been to many villages. This is one of the best organised I have ever seen and so I am positive that everything will develop properly.’
Having participated seven times in the Olympic Games and twelve times in the World Athletics Championship, Jesús García Bragado is one of the most recognised athletes in the athletic march discipline, a sport in which he has been world champion in 1993 in Stuttgart. During his long career the new mayor of the Village has also been the athlete with more participations in the Olympic Games (7), the only elite specialist in 50 km march participating in 75 competitions of this distance, the longest in Olympic athletics.
