The International Committee of the Mediterranean Games has approved during the meeting days in Tarragona some changes on the Tarragona 2018 sports programme. They have decided to cancel only 9 sporting events, out of the 237 initially planned, which will be suppressed from the definitive sports programme of the Games to avoid the development of events with a low participation of athletes. It is quite a usual procedure in any similar sport event. It is important to highlight that the list of cancelled events does not mean that any sport discipline will be cancelled from the sports calendar, unlike in the last edition. In Mersin 2018 women’s basketball and equestrian were suppressed from the final sports calendar.

However, only 9 events have been cancelled in Tarragona 2018, despite having three more sports in comparison to Mersin (triathlon, 3×3 basket and golf) and the addition of women’s waterpolo. This situation proves the great level of involvement of the participating National Olympic Committees with the Mediterranean Games Tarragona 2018. Altogether 33 sporting events will be played in the 16 co-host towns.

Below you will find list of the cancelled events of the Tarragona 2018 sporting programme:

Athletics: T54 1 500 m men

Bowls: Singles raffa women | Doubles raffa women | Doubles raffa men

Wrestling: 125 Kg men

Boxing: -49 Kg men

Shooting: Skeet men

Weightlifting: -62 Kg men

Rowing: Lightweight double  sculls (LW2x) women
