RTVE supports enthusiastically the XVIII Mediterranean Games Tarragona 2018

On Tuesday, the RTVE coverage for the Mediterranean Games was presented in the Roman Praetor House in the History Museum of Tarragona. The Mayor of the city, Josep Fèlix Ballesteros, and the RTVE director, Eladio Jareño, participated in the press conference, hosted by the Deputy Director of TVE Sports programmes, Xavi Díaz. Eladio Jareño highlighted the engagement of RTVE with the Mediterranean Games: “A complete commitment of the TV network: we have involved all our TV channels. We are committed to make the Mediterranean Games a success for Tarragona, Catalonia and the whole of Spain”. Jareño gave details about the coverage all RTVE channels will offer, especially on Teledeporte and the Information Services. He explained that the operation will involve around 160 people and five complete High Definition mobile units will be used. “The media presence will be quite similar to the one during the Olympic Games since we have different venues and places. The only difference is that Tarragona will be the production and signal media centre”.
Josep Fèlix Ballesteros emphasised their feeling of happiness and calmness due to their good job but with a sense of responsibility since they are projecting Tarragona in the rest of the country. He also wanted to thank the institutional collaboration with RTVE. “There’s a huge difference between simply signing a contract and what we have done and felt with TVE. They are attached to the city, the sport and the culture, every minute and in each activity”, he stated.
All the RTVE channels are supporting the XVIII Mediterranean Games Tarragona 2018, they are preparing special programmes devoted to Tarragona and the Games. Cooking shows like “Masterchef” or “Torres en la cocina”, news programmes like “España Directo”, cultural programmes like “Saber Vivir” or “Saber y ganar” and even children’s shows like “Lunnis de leyenda” will have a special programming devoted to Tarragona and the Games, which will gather from June 22nd and July 1st more than 4 000 athletes from 26 nationalities.
During the Mediterranean Games, Teledeporte will do a wide TV coverage that will start on June 22nd with the opening ceremony in the Nou Estadi of Tarragona and will finish on July 1st with the closing ceremony. The final events of some disciplines will be broadcast live, such as swimming, canoe, artistic gymnastics, karate, badminton, athletics, 3×3 basket, beach volleyball, waterpolo, handball, football and volleyball. Each day, Teledeporte will show an extensive summary programme of the sports events of the day, from 16h to 22h, hosted from the Mediterranean Ring by Xavi Díaz and David Figueira.
Special programming on La 1
TVE La 1 will bring the leading figures of the flagship programmes of the channel to Tarragona: ‘Masterchef Celebrity’, ‘Torres en la Cocina’, ‘España Directo’ and ‘Saber Vivir’. Besides, the cultural quiz programme Saber y Ganar will have a show devoted to the Mediterranean Games and the channel will broadcast several documentaries about Tarraco, the Roman city.
Daily coverage on RTVE Information Services
The Information Services will have a wide coverage with a daily presence of the Games in the Telenotícies, Canal 24H and Daily News, with special show on the inauguration day. The TVE programming in Catalan language will also focus on the Mediterranean Games. The programme ‘Cinco días’ will broadcast an episode with a follow-up of the preparations, a follow-up during the competition and the final of some events.
The national radio RNE will also devote a great deal of their programming to cover this important sports event. The programmes ‘Tablero deportivo’, ‘Radio Gaceta de los deportes’ and ‘Vestuario’ will pay special attention to the development of the event.
Finally, RTVE.es will create a webpage to track all the news of the Games and the different competitions that could be seen in multi-signal.
Tarracvs and ‘Los Lunnis de Leyenda”, in Clan channel
The kids TV series ‘Lunnies de Leyenda’ focuses on Tarragona Mediterranean Games in the episode ‘Luci Minici’, Olympic champion, where Tarracvs, the mascot of the Games, takes part. The kids channel will emit several promotional clips with Los Lunnies and the mascot of Tarragona 2018.
