ONCE (National Organization of Spanish blind people) will dedicate the ticket sold on Tuesday, May 22nd to the XVIII Mediterranean Games Tarragona 2018, which will take place between June 22nd and July 1st. The ticket shows Tarracvs, Tarragona 2018’s popular mascot, and Tarragona’s skyline, where we can see some of the main attractions like the Cathedral, the Balcó del Mediterrani rail or the amphitheatre.
The event took place this morning at Teatret del Serrallo, and counted with the presence of Josep Fèlix Ballesteros, Mayor of Tarragona; Xavier Grau, ONCE’s territorial delegate in Catalonia; Sara Gimeno, ONCE’s Manager in Tarragona, and Rafaela Pérez, Vicepresident of the ONCE Territorial Council in Catalonia.
Mayor Ballesteros highlighted the many times ONCE collaborated “when it came to city accessibility issues” and emphasized “the impact that this wide-ranging ticket will cause, reaching to millions of people all over the country. It is a wonderful initiative to support the Games”. On his behalf, Xavier Grau also wanted to underline “spreading this kind of ticket means a lot for the Games and Tarragona” and added that “ONCE means territory and by doing this kind of local actions we want to contribute to make it better”.
On October 15th, 2011, the International Committee of the Mediterranean Games chose Tarragona to be the city hosting the XVIII Mediterranean Games. 33 sports disciplines, 4,000 athletes from 26 different nationalities, 1,000 judges and international representatives, 1,000 journalists, 3,500 volunteers and over 150,000 spectators.
Moreover, it is a great project involving all the territory. 16 municipalities will host the different competitions: Cambrils, Salou, Vila-seca, Reus, el Vendrell, Calafell, Torredembarra, Constantí, Valls, la Pobla de Mafumet, el Morell, Altafulla, la Selva del Camp, Castelldefels, Barcelona and, of course, Tarragona.
The Mediterranean Games Tarragona 2018 will be known for the territorial component and the compromise to leave a legacy for the local development and accessibility improvement by constructing new infrastructures and sports facilities.
