Today the athletics competitions of the Mediterranean Games have started in Campclar Athletics Stadium, which will be open until next June 30th. The first final has been played today wednesday in the afternoon for women’s shot put discipline, which has finished with France dominating the podium. The French athletes Alexandra Tavernier and Camille Sainte Luce have worn two gold and bronze medals respectively, whereas Turkey’s Kivilcim Kaya Salman has obtained the silver medal.
The Torredembarra-born athlete, Berta Castells, could not improve the score of the other competitors and has finished in a fourth position. The Spanish athlete has been twelve consecutive times Spanish champion between 2003 and 2014 and she has participated in three Olympic Games.
First day of Judo in Cambrils
This morning was also the first competition day for judo in Cambrils Pavilion with full grandstands since the team of the hosting country of the Games have taken many athletes.
During the day, the first medals have been delivered in different categories. The Spanish team has been the country winning more medals: two gold medals and a silver one in the three categories played today.
Julia Figueroa, the Spanish Olympic athlete in Rio Games, has obtained a gold medal in 48 kg category. Also, in the men’s 60 kg category Francisco Garrigós has conquered the gold medal. Alberto Gaitero has won a silver medal in the 60 – 66 kg category.
