Torredembarra is a coastal town and municipality in the region of Tarragona. Located on the Costa Daurada, confronts the west with Altafulla, the north with La Pobla de Montornès and the east with Creixell. The name comes from the agglutination Torre d’en Barra, d’en Barres, en Bares o Bardes, but the official registration takes place the first quarter of the fourteenth century. At the beginning it was simply known as la Torre, taking turris as a tower or a particular fortified house, which would dominate a block or subdivision of a castral term. Thus, in 1178, to put Ramon Mestre and his family it is said that they were from Turre (la Torre). It’s a fact that in 1279 and 1280 there is the existence of Clara’s tower church, “Turri de Clayrano” or “Turre de Clerano“, which it has been interpreted over time that it would have become the tower in Barra or Torredembarra.
