The Secretary of State for Sport, José Ramón Lete, has been received by the mayor of Tarragona, José Fèlix Ballesteros, in the presence of other authorities such as the Representative of the Government of Catalonia, Enric Millo—first signing the Guest Book of the Tarragona City Council and then attending a meeting in the Room of “Il·lustres Tarragonins”.
In statements made after the meeting in front of the media, the mayor of Tarragona, José Fèlix Ballesteros, declared himself highly pleased with the visit and the commitments established with the new Secretary of State—“a commitment that is possible thanks to both the Secretariat of Sport and the President of the Government, and also thanks to everyone involved in the Games”, and has announced one of the established agreements that pleases him the most, which is “the immediate incorporation of the central government into the Games Committee”. Finally, and dealing with the questions raised by the journalists, he has strongly emphasized that “NOT celebrating the Games is impossible”.
For his part, the Secretary of State for Sport, José Ramon Lete, has confirmed “the written agreement with the Mediterranean Games 2018 before the month of April, which will be defined through a protocol” and has stressed that “the government will be at the height of what this event deserves and will find a source of founding to make the Games possible”. The Secretary has summarised today’s visit as “the realization of a firm financial and institutional commitment, a commitment of loyalty to the Games”.
The meeting has been attended by: Josep Fèlix Ballesteros, Mayor of Tarragona; Jose Ramón Lete, Secretary of the State for Sport; Enric Millo, Representative of the Government of Catalonia; Emilio Ablanedo, Sub-delegate of the Government of Tarragona; Alejandro Blanco, President of the COE; Víctor Sanchez, Secretary-general of the COE and Executive Director of Tarragona 2018 and Maria Isabel Negueruela, Deputy Mayor and Sports Councillor of the City Hall of Tarragona.
