The International Committee of the Mediterranean Games (ICMG) has started working today in Tarragona. The members of both the ICMG and the organisation of Tarragona have held the regular meetings in which the ICMG evaluates the project of Tarragona 2018. Both committees have made progress in the operational aspects of the event, such as the technical and medical dimensions, in addition to the traditional coordinating committee.

In the afternoon, the International Committee of the Mediterranean Games has visited the works taking place in the Mediterranean Ring. The international delegation has been led by its president Amar Addadi, who has been accompanied by the president of the Organising Committee of Tarragona 2018 and mayor of Tarragona, Josep Fèlix Ballesteros, among other authorities.

The members of the International Committee have symbolically planted five trees and a commemorative plaque has been unveiled on the occasion of their visit of the Mediterranean Ring.

During the visit, the mayor has taken the opportunity to thank the Committee for the confidence placed in the city and has claimed that “the Games will become a reality next year and we want them to be the best in history”. He has noted that the Games will be economically and ecologically sustainable, and has underlined the commitment to make these Games “the event of understanding, peace and dialogue”.

The president of the ICMG, Amar Addadi, has expressed his admiration for the great progress made in the ongoing construction works of the Ring and has stated: “I congratulate you for your perseverance in these difficult times and we wish you the best of luck for this Mediterranean Games, which will be a success”.

On the other hand, the mayor, Josep Fèlix Ballesteros, has announced that the renovation works in the velodrome will begin before the summer, with a budget of 350 000 euros, and the works in the 50 meter swimming pool will start over the summer.
