The ICMG to propose to the General Assembly the participation of Portugal in the Mediterranean Games
Amar Addadi: "I am certain that Tarragona 2017 will be a great success"category: ICMG
The International Committee of the Mediterranean Games (ICMG) has today held the last two work meetings, to complete the visit that was started on 30 March. Amar Addadi, president of the International Committee, underlined in a press release, his great satisfaction for the work carried out by the Organizing Committee of the Mediterranean Games. He added that “one year before the event, the development phase has intensified and the work presented during this visit has meant that he has no concerns”. Addadi was accompanied by Alejandro Blanco, president of the Spanish Olympic Committee; Javier Villamayor the general coordinator of Tarragona 2017 and Marbel Negueruela, councillor for sports of Tarragona City Council.
The president of the International Committee of the Mediterranean Games, Amar Addadi, has given active support to the organizing team of Tarragona 2017, and stated that he is certain that the Games will be a great success”.
Possible entry of Portugal in the Games
President Addadi explained that the ICMG will present to the General Assembly the participation of Portugal in the XVIII Mediterranean Games Tarragona 2017. According to the president of the ICMG , this is a cause of great satisfaction for the committee. The president of the Spanish Olympic Committee , Alejandro Blanco, is pleased that a friendly, neighbouring country will form part of this competition. The general coordinator of Tarragona 2017, Javier Villamayor, showed the same satisfaction, stating that “the ICMG is working towards Portugal joining the dynamics of the International Committee”.
According to Addadi, Portugal has stated its wish to participate in the Mediterranean Games Tarragona 2017, and assures that there is every possibility that this may well occur.
New construction works
During the press conference, Javier Villamayor, general coordinator of Tarragona 2017, referred to the current situation of new construction works of the Olympic Ring. Regarding the Sports Centre, he gave the ICMG “a full guarantee that this facility will be built as the Catalonia Government announced”.
Javier Villamayor also considers that the swimming pool will be built. He explained that there are various funding alternatives and there is no concern that construction will be completed, as works are not particularly complex.
Start of the development works of the Ring
The visit of the International Committee coincided with the start of development works of the Mediterranean Ring, the epicentre of the Mediterranean Games. Members of the ICMG, led by president Addadi, were able to see at first hand, the start of these works.
The committee members also visited other facilities of the Games, such as the excellent development of works on the new Sant Jordi complex, the Jordi Tarragó Shooting Club, the Vila-seca Pavillion, along with the offices of the Mediterranean Games Tarragona 2017, located at Marina Port Tarraco.<
