The Games volunteer recruitment comes to an end after getting 604 new entries in 14 days

The Games volunteer recruitment has shut the enrollment period down after 8,384 people registered to have a place in the team. 604 of these registrations were made while the final campaign #ViuelsJocs was running, therefore, in two weeks. Now that the recruitment phase is over, the operational phase will start. Throughout this phase our main tasks will be carrying out the specific training, as well as allocating volunteers to their corresponding area, and defining the Games concrete positions and necessities, among others. During this period of time, the management and training online platform for volunteers is expected to start working. This program will allow volunteers to manage their personal profile and carry out their online training.
The Mayor of Tarragona and also the Games Organizing Committee President, Josep Fèlix Ballesteros, emphasized that “we are moving forward from the volunteer team operational phase. We are really satisfied with the citizens participation to be part of this project, and we will work hard to have a superb volunteer team during the Games. We got a result we would have never expected to reach.” The Mayor was accompanied by the Tarragona 2018 Executive Director, Victor Sánchez; the Deputy Mayor and also Commissioner of the Games, Javier Villamayor; and the Director of the area which includes the volunteers management, Operations and Services II, Gerard Monguió.
A total of 8,384 enrolled people
We would like to outline some data from the people who have enrolled to be part of the Tarragona 2018 volunteer team. If we look at their gender, 57% of volunteers are women. Based on their origin, 62% of them come from the province of Tarragona, while 17% are from other places of Catalonia and the 8% come from the rest of Spain. The last 13% of the volunteers are international, coming from countries like Italy, Turkey or Algeria. If we classify them by age gaps, 48% are between 16 and 25 years old. People between 26 and 40 years old represent the 28% of the volunteers and, finally, 5% of the volunteers are over 60 years old.
After all the volunteers’ availability and interests are checked, about 3,500 people will be selected to be part of the team.
Clubs and towns are getting involved in the Games
During these last weeks, the Tarragona 2018 Volunteers Department has scheduled fifteen meetings with representatives of all the Games’ disciplines around the territory to confirm their participation via volunteers engaging to support the Games. Those meetings were managed by each sport local federations.
Host cities called informative meetings as well. In this case, the aim was to encourage local citizens to enroll in the Tarragona 2018 Volunteers Team.
The Provincial Government of Tarragona and the Catalonia Occupation Service help with the volunteers training
The Tarragona 2018 volunteer recruitment kicked off on Saint George’s Day (April 23rd) of 2013. After these almost five years, 2,000 people will have done the basic and supplementary trainings thanks to the Provincial Government of Tarragona and the Catalonia Occupation Service support. Furthermore, around a thousand people will have taken part in activities organized all over the region as volunteers.
Likewise, this weekend the last two basic volunteer trainings have taken place in Tarragona’s CaixaForum. Now that these basic trainings are over, the specific trainings, already focused on the Games, will be scheduled soon.
