Canoeing is a sport discipline which consists in sailing a canoe in flat water or white-water.
Canoeing appears as a result of the need that humanity has had since its inception to master the element of water, and that is why all civilizations have designed simple boats, but with a great manoeuvrability, safety and effectiveness, to move fluently where nature was hostile.
There are different types of canoeing, depending on the number of people who sail on the boat or the water surface on which it is developed (sea, river, lake, pool or artificial track). Water canoeing and slalom are the disciplines currently being held as an Olympic sport.
Canoeing was introduced in the Mediterranean Games of 1979 in Split (Croatia).
