Boxing is a contact sports in which two people fight using only their fists covered with padded gloves, striking their opponent from the waist up, inside a boxing ring especially designed for this goal, in short fighting sequences called assaults or rounds and according to a precise regulation.
The first codification of the rules regulating boxing matches dates from 1743, whereas the existing rules were established in 1889 by the Marquis of Queensberry, who, among other things, introduced the use of gloves.
Boxing was first held in the Mediterranean Games of 1951 in the city of Alexandria (Egypt).
