The period for the Committees to submit their entries by number to participate in Tarragona 2018 ended last midnight with an outstanding participation in the history of the Mediterranean Games. All National Olympic Committees proved to be fully involved with the Games by registering a remarkable number of entries to most of the Games competitions, including sports new to the Mediterranean Games (triathlon, basket 3×3 and female waterpolo) and those brought back after being absent in Mersin (golf and equestrian).
By the entries by number phase deadline, 3978 people had been registered. We must keep in mind that this number is not the number of athletes, but the number of entries; for example, a handball team entry counts as only one entry, while an athlete’s entry in multiple events of the same discipline counts as different entries.
The final number of athletes participating in the Mediterranean Games will be known once the entries by name period is over; at the beginning of June.
