Members of National Olympic Committees and International Commitee of the Mediterranean Games (ICMG) have highlighted the rationality, sustainability of investments and the search for maximum efficiency and vision of the legacy after the Tarragona 2017 Mediterranean Games.

The president of the ICMG will send a letter to the Spanish Government as a result of the information published on media about the lack of budget for the Mediterranean Games from the Government.

 

The International Committee of the Mediterranean Games (ICMG) has defined the status of Tarragona 2017 project as very positive after the intervention that has carried out today a delegation of the games at the ICMG General Assembly in Pescara, Italy.

The delegation of Tarragona 2017, formed by the Deputy Mayor of the Mediterranean Games of the city of Tarragona, Javier Villamayor; the general director of Tarragona 2017, Ramon Cuadrat; and the General Secretary of the Spanish Olympic Committee, Victor Sanchez; have presented a status report of the project, the progress made and the next steps that will be performed.

The president of the IMGC, Amar Addadi, has stated that “Tarragona 2017 is doing a great job following the schedule and challenge them to continue working with the same enthusiasm to the side of the IMGC.”

The Deputy Mayor of the Mediterranean Games, Javier Villamayor, stated that “after the presentation of Tarragona 2017 several members of National Olympic Committees and of ICMG present in the General Assembly have highlighted as a very positive features of our project the rationality, sustainability of investments and the search for maximum efficiency and vision of the legacy of the Games”.

On the other hand, the Secretary general of COE, Victor Sanchez, added that “the IMGC has many expectations that Tarragona will repeat the organizational success of similar sporting events in Spain. They believe that Tarragona 2017 can be a great organizational model for the future “.

 

Finances of the Games

Concerning the financial situation of Tarragona 2017 and the economical contribution of the Spanish Government, the delegation of Tarragona had a meeting yesterday with President Amar Addadi and later, after the meeting of the Executive Committee of the ICMG, was agreed that he will send a letter to the Vice President of the Spanish Government and the Minister of Culture, Education and Sport as a result of concerns created as a result of the information published in the media about the lack of game the budget for the games. Finally, Javier Villamayor added that “the ICMG knows the concern caused by the lack of definition of the commitment of the State in terms of investments, an issue that has been dealt with in the Executive Committee”.

 

Oran 2021

On the other hand, at the General Assembly of the IMGC of Pescara has also been chosen the city of Northwestern Algeria, Oran, as the city to host the Mediterranean Games in 2021.
